A vacation destination… A city rich in historical beauty… A small community feel in the midst of one of the largest counties in Tennessee… That is what you will find in Greeneville, Tennessee’s second oldest town, the home of the seventeenth president of the United States, Andrew Johnson, and the birthplace of celebrated hero, Davy Crockett.

What more could a tourist possibly want? How about streets lined with antique shops, craft malls, a quaint coffee shop and numerous art galleries? Sound enticing?

Come see why we boast of our rich historical past and our breathtaking mountain views. You can tour Andrew Johnson’s early home and homestead, wander through the many exhibits in his museum and be thrilled by his ghost walking through the tailor shop where he worked and where many spirited debates occurred. Visit Monument Hill where Andrew Johnson and several members of his family are laid to rest. You can also visit Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park with its replica of the cabin in which Crockett was born. Encased in front of the cabin is an engraved marker reported to have been the footstone of the original cabin. The park also includes the Visitor’s Center and Museum, campsites, swimming pool and three scenic picnic areas.

Enticed yet? How about visiting historical churches as their bells toll the hour and history unfolds around each and every corner; or the spot where General John Hunt Morgan was shot and killed in 1864.

Greeneville also boasts of the General Morgan Inn & Conference Center. Created from four interconnected "Railroad Hotels" dating from the late 1800s. This property offers 51 guest rooms and a lavish presidential suite as well as meeting space to accommodate up to 300 people. The community is also blessed with several modern hotel/motel facilities and can accommodate small to medium meetings and conventions.

Come and enjoy Greeneville's rich history and scenic beauty every season throughout the year.

Greene County Partnership's Main Street to the Mountains Auto Tours!!

Main Street to the Mountains” is a comprehensive auto tour guide and has four tours incorporated into a quality four-color, spiral bound booklet.  The original concept of the guide was to develop a series of day trips that would focus on scenic drives, points of interest, picnicking and short walks and hikes.

The four tours include A Track Through Greene County, Along the Foot of Greystone, A Journey to Paint Rock, and Rivers, Roads and Rail Lines.  Each tour is introduced with a summary of what will be seen and what was once located on these back roads in Greene County.  Each self-guided tour begins in the parking lot of the Greene County Partnership on Academy Street and the mileage begins as the visitor exits.  Several key points of interest are noted throughout each tour and several “side trips” are offered as well.  The guide also features a “Before You Begin” section that alerts participants of amenities that will be needed for the tour such as plenty of gasoline, binoculars, cameras and film as well as picnic foods and appropriate dress for hiking.

Quaint icons introduce each tour and continue as a background for the page numbers.  Beautiful full color pictures as well as black and white photos are incorporated into each tour to give one the idea of what was and some of what is now.  The cover features the photo by Jerry Hankins of the downtown area with church steeples pointing up towards the mountain peaks that overlook our area.
