A vacation destination… A city rich in historical beauty… A small community feel in the midst of one of the largest counties in Tennessee… That is what you will find in Greeneville, Tennessee’s second oldest town, the home of the seventeenth president of the United States, Andrew Johnson, and the birthplace of celebrated hero, Davy Crockett.
Come see why we boast of our rich historical past and our breathtaking mountain views. You can tour Andrew Johnson’s early home and homestead, wander through the many exhibits in his museum and be thrilled by his ghost walking through the tailor shop where he worked and where many spirited debates occurred. Visit Monument Hill where Andrew Johnson and several members of his family are laid to rest. You can also visit Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park with its replica of the cabin in which Crockett was born. Encased in front of the cabin is an engraved marker reported to have been the footstone of the original cabin. The park also includes the Visitor’s Center and Museum, campsites, swimming pool and three scenic picnic areas.
Enticed yet? How about visiting historical churches as their bells toll the hour and history unfolds around each and every corner; or the spot where General John Hunt Morgan was shot and killed in 1864.
Greeneville also boasts of the General Morgan Inn & Conference Center. Created from four interconnected "Railroad Hotels" dating from the late 1800s. This property offers 51 guest rooms and a lavish presidential suite as well as meeting space to accommodate up to 300 people. The community is also blessed with several modern hotel/motel facilities and can accommodate small to medium meetings and conventions.
Come and enjoy Greeneville's rich history and scenic beauty every season throughout the year.
TOURISM’S NEW TOP 40 DAY TRIPS BROCHURE NOW AVAILABLE

Greeneville, TN – The Tourism Department of the Greene County Partnership announces the arrival of its brand new “Greeneville, Tennessee’s Top 40 Day Trips.” Hot off the press, the brochure includes destinations not only in historic Greeneville/Greene County, but also surrounding areas such as Bristol, Gatlinburg, Asheville, etc.
“The concept behind the creation of the” Top 40 Day Trips” was that if tourists (families, retirees or active adults) are given a wide variety of interesting things to do within about an hour of Greeneville, there is a higher likelihood they will spend extra time in our community,” stated Lyndon Gallimore, leader of the project for Tourism. “Extended stays are great for our local economy (hotels, restaurants and retail establishments) and they give our visitors more time to fall in love with Greeneville as a place to call home.
“We also expect tourists to pick these brochures up at a Visitor Welcome Center and decide that historic Greeneville is a great place to stay with a lot of attractions close by,” Gallimore said, “The real strength of the Top 40 Day Trips is that it includes the best of Greeneville/Greene County and significant attractions that are a reasonable drive from Greeneville.”
The piece includes lodging properties only in Greeneville/Greene County and highlights local visitor offerings, as well as sites such as Bays Mountain & Planetarium, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Appalachian Trail and Virginia Creeper Trail, the Archie Campbell Museum and much more.
