Recycling Resources
Greene County Convenience Centers
Items Accepted
These centers accept #1 and #2 plastics, plastic shopping bags, cardboard, newspaper, aluminum cans, used oil, four used tires per year, batteries, metal, used wire (at Afton and West Greene centers only), old furniture, and electronic waste (items plugged into an outlet), as well as household trash. Oil-based paint can be taken to the Hal Henard Convenience Center (815 Hal Henard Rd.). Latex can be dried out by mixing with kitty litter or donated.
Recycle textile containers are at the following convenience centers: Afton, Hal Henard, South Greene and West Greene
The community can place used clothing, linens, shoes, belts and purses in the containers. This will contribute to an increase in our county's percentage of recycling and prevent additional materials from being added to the landfill. As community participation increases, additional containers will be added to other convenience centers.
The Greene County Convenience Centers are open Monday through Saturday during the times listed below. All centers are closed on Sunday.

The Greeneville/Greene County Landfill/Transfer Station & Public Works Department
With more people staying at home as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Greeneville Public Works Department has seen an uptick in bulk items being discarded for pickup.
The department reminds Greeneville residents that a phone call is required to Public Works to provide for the most efficient collection of the items as possible, according to an announcement from the department. Residents are asked to call 638-6152 and select option 8 to schedule the pickup with one of its drivers.
Public Works also reminds citizens that “bulk items” consist of dry items such as furniture, appliances, mattresses and box springs.
Carpet, carpet padding, construction material, cardboard, clothing, tires and paint will not be picked up by the department, according to the announcement.
Latex paint can be donated if it is full or can be mixed with kitty litter or mulch and thrown in the trash.
The Public Works Department (708 W. Summer Street) accepts oil-based paint, oil, antifreeze, car and truck batteries from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday (closed Friday) for city residents only. County residents can take oil-based paint to any convenience center.
