The Agribusiness Committee of the Greene County Partnership promotes agriculture in the area and is composed of individuals representing agriculture businesses and state offices, as well as dairy and beef farmers. The committee hosts various events each year that focus on promotion of farmers and agriculture.
Kids Day on the Farm hosts more than 700 local city and county third grade students and teachers at the UT Research & Education Center in May. The visitors experience the many aspects of farm life, as well as sample all kinds of dairy refreshments.
The June Dairy Day Celebration is held in June from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lowe's parking lot. The event is designed to pay homage to dairy farmers and the important part they play in our lives. Those attending enjoy free dairy food samples, contests and entertainment.
The Farm-City Banquet is held in November at the Clyde Austin 4-H Camp. The event features dinner, the presentation of two special awards and a speaker for the evening. The banquet is designed to bring agriculture representatives and business professionals together for an evening of enjoyment.
The 2008 Greene County Farm & Garden Expo sponsored in part by Farm Credit Services is scheduled for October 3-4 at the Greene County Fairgrounds. The purpose of the event is to promote Greene County agriculture, Greene County agri-businesses and to educate home and land owners and farmers about the available government programs. The event will also inform farmers and home owners of new programs, products, and new farming and gardening practices on the horizon.
